Ways To Enjoy Golf More
Golf is game that many of us love, but there are moments when we wish we had never picked up a club. You can make those times less frequent by using a few of these tips.
1. Walk the course, don’t ride. Some suggest that walking is the only pure way to play the sport, but it can also improve your score. Walking gives you a better opportunity to scan the layout of each hole and consider strategy for each shot. Walking is also a great way to get a little exercise. And, if you’re normally a golf cart person, you can save a lot of cash on cart rental fees. With a little of the money you save on rental fees, you can buy yourself a golf push cart and you won’t even have to carry your bag.
2. Don’t play the blue tees. Unless you are at least a 10 handicap or lower, why make the game even harder than it has to be. If you are shooting in the ninties or triple digits, it makes no sense to make the game any more difficult. By playing the white tees, you can take the extra level of anxiety out of the equation.
3. Play multiple games. Compete in categories other than score, instead of playing the same old match with your buddies. Some examples might be most fairways hit, least amount of 3 putts, or most 1 putts.
4. It’s your honor, take it. If you just birdied the hardest (or easiest) hole on the golf course, it’s your tee, you earned it. You will be surprised how often you can have two birdies in a row when you are actually trying to get two birdies in a row; challenge yourself to get another one.
5. Improve your lie. If you are playing a recreational round of golf, there is no reason to play by the strict rules of golf. The average round would be at least 6 hours at courses all over the world, if everyone played by these rules. Golfers would be looking for every lost ball for 5 minutes and returning to the tees all day after hitting there first ball out bounds. So if we are bending the rules to save time, why not bend them to improve your lie, something you can actually benefit from. Play winter rules all the time.
6. Decrease your expectations. If you are an average golfer, you play golf twice per week, if you’re lucky. Besides that, you don’t practice as much as you should. Honestly, do you think that your game is exactly what it should be. Don’t be so hard on yourself when you are not playing well, just enjoy the game itself. Even the pros have bad days.
If you follow these few tips: play the white tees, walk with a golf push cart, give yourself a good lie, don’t play for the best score, play for the honor, and be realistic about your expectations, the game will be much more enjoyable.
